Congress Report

Day I - 08 June 2015

II International Congress Lodzkie of Energy 2015 was held on days 8-10.06.2015. First day of Congress consisted of the following main parts: Opening of Congress, Plenary Session, Session panel, Oxford debate and Summary.

Opening Ceremony began at 9.00 and was performed by such personalities as: Ms. Elżbieta Królikowska-Kińska, Member of Polish Parliament, Mr. Tomasz Trela, Deputy Mayor of Łódź, Mr. Jacek Kaczorowski, President of PGE. Guests were also welcomed by Mr. Jakub Mielczarek, a.i. Director of the Marshal's Office in Lodz and President of the Research and Innovation Center Pro-Akademia, Mrs. Dr Ewa Kochańska.

During the first part of the plenary session "New Energy Union and circular economy” Mr. prof. Tadeusz Skoczkowski from Warsaw University of Technology gave a lecture on “The importance and objectives of the Energy Union”. Then the guests had opportunity to watch a video about “Circular economy: opportunities, threats and challenges” prepared by Mr. Kurt Vandenberghe from Directorate General for Research and Innovation in European Commission.

After the coffee break, started second part of the plenary session entitled "Technologies for society." During this part of the Congress guests had the opportunity to listen the presentation of Mrs Elżbieta Królikowska-Kińska about “The new act of innovation”. Then, guests could participate in foreign guest’s presentations. First, Mrs. Carme Margelí, Director for International Projects of the Institute of Cetemmsa gave a lecture “Technology transfer: Innovation for business” and then Mr. Urban Kaiser from the Fraunhofer MOEZ had a speech about “Energy Efficiency in buildings and eco-innovative financing”.

After the lunch break the second part of the Congress - Panel sessions began.

Panel session "E-mobility and low carbon transport” was moderated by Dr. Marian Korczyński from the Technical University of Lodz. Guests from Germany, Mr. Christian Groetsch and Mr. Christoph von Radowitz, jointly presented the topic: "The city as a regional model for sustainable mobility - report from Leipzig," in which was presented strategy of mobility that is used in the company Bundesverband eMobilität which both of them represent. Then Mr. Michał Wekiera from the Polish Automotive Industry Association had a presentation about “Electric cars and prospects for their development." As the summary of the panel discussion there was a brief discussion about presented issues and positive conclusion of the Moderator about the development of mobility and electric cars.

During the Congress Lodzkie of Energy also Mr. Francesco Paolo Lamacchia, Founder and President of the Zero Energy Building - First Italian National Network gave his presentation. The subject of his panel session was : "Building energy-saving and solutions for distributed energy" and was moderated by Dr. Arkadiusz Węglarz, who led a discussion with the participants. Each of them commented on the speaker’s  presentation.


The next panel session was devoted to the subject "Funding opportunities for ecological investments". The introductory lecture was presented by Mr. Sebastian Serwiak, Deputy Director of the National Contact Point for Research Programmes of the EU at the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research Polish Academy of Sciences. The presentation concerned, among the others, opportunities offered by the EU Framework Programme Horizon 2020. Mr. Director presented a wide range of opportunities for cooperation with the NCP. Responsible for moderating the discussion was Mrs. Dr Ewa Kochańska, President of Research and Innovation Center Pro-Academia. Panel participants had the opportunity to discuss and seek information and feedback on specific sources of funding appropriate to their ideas. Guests heard about the new EU programs, the help they can receive from NCP as well as about international cooperation. The listeners could exchange experiences through a short presentation of people and institutions they represented, which took place at the beginning of the session.


The last panel session entitled "Social impact of innovative energy production" was conducted by Mr. Silvio Weeren from HearINvest company. The moderator of the session was Mrs. Professor Lucyna Woźniak from the Medical University of Lodz. Speech by Mr. Silvio Weeren can be described as innovative. According to Weeren every human being has got energy, but its realization and utilization depends on us. The panel participants were fascinated by the personality of our speaker. Atmosphere of the panel encouraged to ask questions and therefore interesting discussion ensued.
After a short coffee break there was time for a very interesting point of the program, which was the Oxford Debate.

Subject of debate was as follows “The choice of green technologies in the energy sector should not be decided by the economic reasons but above all by the safety of society”. Winners were chosen by international experts.

Duel between young people in both groups was extremely levelized. Because of oratorical abilities and quick reaction to difficult questions, the winner in public vote were students of Medical University, however jury bet on University of Lodz. The audience was active and pelted hailstorm of questions both groups of students. Dr Ewa Kochańska, President of Research and Innovation Centre Proakademia made a brief summary of Oxford Debate.


The crowning moment of the Congress was a brief summary of each panel carried out by all moderators. After a short discussion, the guests were invited to a gala dinner and closing day of the Congress.

Day II - 09 June 2015

The second day of Congress started with visit in the Power Plant EC4 in Łódź after which guests had an opportunity to spend time in RES TTC in Konstantynów Łódzki. Congress participants could exchange project ideas and establish new contacts. Scientists from Pro-Akademia presented laboratories located in RES TTC:

After the presentation of laboratories was held meeting with Henryk Brzyszcz, Mayor of Konstantynów Łódzki, who presented, among others, current and future investments in the region. The lecture was supported by the speech of Mrs. Ph.D. Ewa Kochańska, who presented a short history of RES TTC and plans for the future.

At the end of the day there was a Networking Garden Dinner.

Day III - 10 June 2015

The theme of the speeches during the third day of the Congress was light as an energy source accompanying us in everyday life. As always, the guests were welcomed by Mrs. Dr. Ewa Kochańska, President of the CBI Pro-Academy. The first presentation was delivered by Dr. Eng. Jan Grzonkowski, representing the Polish Committee on Illumination.

One of the subjects of his speech was an initiative to declare the year 2015 as the International Year of Light. Another speaker was Ms dr. Wieslawa Pabjańczyk from the Institute of Electrical Power Engineering at the Technical University of Lodz, representing at the same time the company NOVA LIGHT. The representatives of two companies: DAGLass and Geopolis attended to the Congress together with Ms Pabjańczyk.

During their presentations we had the opportunity to observe many light presentations, drawing our attention not only to the aesthetics of e.g. illuminated buildings, but also to our safety on the road. The next and the last part of the programme was to summarize the II International Congress Lodzkie of Energy , which Mrs. Dr. Ewa Kochańska has done. This part was also an invitation to the Energy Lodz International Fair 2015.

The honour of opening the Fair was to Ms. Katarzyna Drobińska - President of the International Fair of Lodz. When all the speeches came to an end, the time has come to explore the stands, prepared by numerous companies, where you can get to know the profile of the company and see the offer of cooperation.
